BLUFFTON, SC – On Saturday, March 5, 2022, Burnt Church Distillery, 120 Bluffton Rd. will celebrate its first year of success in the Lowcountry with an all-day community celebration. The family-inclusive fête will include local food truck favorites, drink specials, lawn games, and entertainment from Burnt Church Revival, DJ Tim Patoine, and Jason Laporte. The event is free and open to the public; food and beverages are available for purchase from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m.
“In many ways, Burnt Church Distillery is a love letter to the Town of Bluffton and its residents throughout history. We’ve researched, honored legacy, and instilled innovation in a way that rings true to the nature of culinary arts and unique Lowcountry flavors also found in architecture, design, visual, and performing arts throughout this area,” said Billy Watterson, CEO of Watterson Brands and co-founder of Burnt Church Distillery.
Since opening in March 2021, they have welcomed 80,000 patrons through the doors and developed tours for visitors eager to know the story behind Burnt Church Distillery and the Bluffton area. While the Distillery began construction in 2019 and is not a historic site, the monikers of the craft spirits made at the location are all based on true stories, once thought to be lost to the clouded annals of history. The book, Burnt Church Road, Unravelling the Story Behind the Name, by Genevieve Reilly Secchi with Melanie Beal Marks, was commissioned by Distillery founders to help paint that full picture.
“We’ve felt the community has truly embraced us and we are endlessly thankful for the support and enthusiasm for our spirits, menus, and events,” said Chris Crowe, General Manager of Burnt Church Distillery. “In addition to exciting new products to come in the future, we are excited to offer a range of tour experience options this year.”
To date, the Distillery has sold 48,841 bottles of craft spirits and 2,203 bottles of Amethyst distilled non-alcoholic spirits, creating 22 original cocktails and three new spirits. Additionally, there were 76,788 cocktails and tastings at the Distillery throughout last year.
Burnt Church Distillery is open to the public seven days a week, with additional private event opportunities and community events all year long. A variety of memberships are available to provide VIP seating, early access to new products and event planning. Their distilled spirits products are available locally at the Distillery and are in distribution throughout Georgia and South Carolina.
While serving the community through monthly giveback opportunities, the Distillery is also dedicated to charitable collaborations with Watterson Brands’ portfolio of venues and the ongoing initiative, Watterson Means Good™ and the Lowcountry Legacy Fund.
